Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children.
- President Dwight D. Eisenhower

Kevin A. Ford

He is currently the only American representative on our species' only permanent outpost in space. So... content. All right, well, let's start with the space station, all right? Did you know that you can see the space station without a telescope? In fact, NASA runs a service at http://spotthestation.nasa.gov Where they send you an e-mail or text message when it will be in your area. It was over my part of America at 6:24 AM this morning. I was busy dragging my daughter's carcass out of bed for school. Still, that's pretty cool, right?

Alex

He had a way with words.

“You be good, see you tomorrow. I love you.”

When I first learned of Alex, I immediately denied the concept. A bird, a parrot, capable of complex communication? Still, as the different articles and reports accumulated, I had to believe that it was in fact true. An African Grey Parrot named Alex, did in fact, have the power of speech.

He was 31. His species can live to be twice that age in captivity.
