Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children.

Fred Rogers

The world is a better place because of him.

All right, usually, I just write a quip about the person mentioned in the title of my posts, but I just can't do that for Fred Rogers. Most historical figures have controversy. Most did what they did for personal glory, promotion of a cause, or simple ambition. Fred Rogers just loved children. His single purpose was to assure children that they were good just the way they are.

His humility was his glory.

Any ways, onto my post. I like squirrels. I mean, they are three heaping cups of cute. I feed them in my backyard. I put stale bread on the stairs leading to my sliding doors, and they walk right up, look at me, and grab a piece. It has to be one of the most life affirming daily experiences that I am privileged to have.

Yeah, I like squirrels.

Discordant thought; there are people in this world that spend their entire lives without witnessing beauty.

I drink coffee at work in my Mr. Roger's Neighborhood mug.

I miss Mr. Rogers.

Squirrels are OK. None of them would ever approach my place, for ANY amount of stale bread. Sadie would attempt to eat them. Stupid squirrels.

I used to think squirrels were ok. And then I moved to La Crosse WI, where they have The Squirrels That Fear No Man."

I swear one tried to ninja kick me to get some food I was carrying once. I now have a completely logical fear of squirrels.

Beauty is in the interpretation.

I would've said "in the eye of the beholder", but even blind people can know beauty...
