Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children.

Katharine Harris

She is the most frightening person I have ever had the misfortune to know about. She makes people's lives worse.

All right. I freely admit that I have done monumentally stupid things in my life. I won't detail them here, but let's just say that I could have been a news clipping more than once. With that qualification out of the way,

This is the luckiest man in Great Britain, and perhaps the western world
.

I have to give him due credit for voluntarily turning himself in to the police when he got sober and saw himself in the newspaper. Now, I have said several times before, I have a seething hatred for idiots. I don't think this man is an idiot.

He did something idiotic, but he isn't an idiot.

Of late, I have put more faith in redemption. It has something to do with a wonderful woman who has put color back into my life, but that's a different blog entry.

Or twelve.
