Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children.

"Grandpa" Hergott

Mother Nature saves one snow storm for him when he comes back from Florida.

So, it's COLD again on this blessed peninsula. I knew it was a good idea to not pack my winter gloves and such just yet. Still, I can't think of any where else that I would rather be. I have family, friends, my love, and my community here. I am invested in southeast Michigan, and I intend to see a return.

People... people are leaving from here. They are going to the west side, they are going out of state... they are looking for security in their economic and social spheres. I can't blame them, nor do I want to. I have just chosen another path.

Outsiders bad-mouth Detroit. If you look at what makes the headlines, I can't exactly say they are doing it out of spite. Still, when I see a bunch of kids of different colors playing on a residential street in Inkster... I have hope.

I don't know if we are going to make it, but I am damn sure going to try.

I too stay for love of family, friends, and you. I do not like my little part of the thumb, but I saw on Sunday why you like yours. I hope you get to venture out of this comfy mitten, at least for a little while... this country is worth exploring. Oh, and the weather... California is da bomb!

That's the only reason I stay in this uninhabitable place. Family. I love my family.

But damn... the other side of the country is definitely looking pretty appetizing right about now.
