Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children.

Pierre Omidyar

He founded eBay.

So, Kim wrote a little story about her childhood toy, a radio with Raggedy Ann and Andy. It stopped working for some reason, and was put away. When she was about ten, she found it, and fiddled about with the insides, and got it to work again. She was so excited that she had FIXED something, she rushed to tell her Grandmother about it... and promptly tripped on its cord, and damaged the radio beyond repair.

Any ways, I commented that I thought that was a poignant story of childhood foibles, and mentioned that I still have my favorite toy, a jingling Fisher Price apple, on my desk.

She commented back that she was able to get a replacement radio off of eBay.Oh, man.

Do any of you remember the eBay commercial where a little boy in 1972 Cape Cod loses his toy boat, and finds it again on eBay? I thought that was the best commercial, ever. Indeed, when I watched it online, I still got goosebumps. Kim did it for real!

Kim... recovered a piece of her childhood, turning a commercial into reality.

I just think that's awesome.

I added a pic of the radio. :) Now I want to find a jingle apple for Sadie! I think it's neat that you were able to hang on to it after all these years.
