Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children.

Sasha Grey

She uses her brain.

Ok, this sentence links to a video that has nudity, and frank discussion on the pornography business, as well as life over all.

Now, the thing about Sasha Grey is that she actually thinks about who she is, and what she is doing. She isn't a scared 18 and a week year old with a coke habit screwing some greasy fifty eight year old in front of a seventeen year old camcorder in order to finance her next fix. She is empowered, and uses her sexuality, her intellectuality, and her charisma to carve out her own niche in this world.

Now, there's terrible, awful, downright immoral and exploitative porn in this world, and then there is the work of Sasha Grey which is closer to art than it is to erotica.

The fact is, smart chicks make me hot.

I agree with Chud.

Oh, and HI! :)

So...wait.

She's "empowered", yet most of her movies are ATM and DP.

Of course, not even mentioning the gang-bangs.

Yeah, I wish the womens' lib movement would reach this level of enlightenment.

You, sir, are losing it. Everyone understands why.....

Oy. Rev, there are feminazis, and then there are feminists.

Think about this for a second. She has the power to get a a bunch of men to come to her so that she can have sex with them, and get paid for it.

Can you get paid to have sex?

every girl has the power to get men to come to her for sex AND get paid. it's called a pussy. she's 18, sounds like a typical 18 year old, and has daddy issues. she's not smart at all. she's typical. which is why i love porn. enough fathers fuck up their daughters and drive them to porn so that i may jerk off to them.

and yes, i could get paid for sex. if i worked on my body and drove out to LA and didn't care about catching stds. all of which i am unwilling to do. she's not empowered, she's... just as much a typical porn star as any other. i've seen a hundred of these interviews and they all sound the same. like what you want, but she's no different from chasey lane or savannah as jenna jameson or linda lovelace.

Uh... Chasey Lain, Savannah, and Jenna Jameson are famous, and will be talked about long after they are gone from this world.

Linda Lovelace, well, she became anti-porn because she was exploited.

What is your argument, exactly? That she is famous, has lots of sex, and rich?

Scoot, If I might...

I love porn. I think erotica is kick ass. However, I don't think this girl is empowered. She is a baby. She is old for her years, yes, very possibly because she was exploited at a young age by a father or uncle or older man (unfortunately, that is the case with over 85% of female porn stars, especially the young ones. And this one is young).

She is bright, yes, and she is well spoken. But that doesn't mean she's in charge of her sexuality. She gets paid for sex. That's not power, though. That's a choice she's made, and she seems comfortable with it, so go her. But I don't believe there is anything admirable in choosing to pursue a career in hardcore porn before you've even reached legal drinking age or have had the opportunity to go to college, travel, try the things the world has to offer. If this little one can tell me she's had a ton of life experience and still thinks getting fucked in the butt with a ball gag in her mouth is the best way she can think of to use her talents, then I'll call her a powerful woman.

Till then, no.

Way to go though, in continuing to choose controversial topics for your blog! I love to read the debates!!!

you are the worlds lousiest arguer scooter. you completely ignore the entire argument and try to go off topic by switching the argument. i'm not gonna bite. either rebut or don't. but don't switch topics.

Your argument is that she is not empowered. She is using her God-given talents to become rich and famous, while having lots of sex.

That's pretty empowered to me.

"In the arena of personal development, empowerment forms an apogee of many a system of self-realisation or of identity (re-)formation. Realising the solipsistic impracticality of everyone anarchistically attempting to exercise power over everyone else, empowerment advocates have adopted the word "empowerment" to offer the attractions of such power, but they generally constrain its individual exercise to potentiality and to feel-good uses within the individual psyche. The concept of personal development is seen as important by many employers, with emphasis placed on continuous learning, increased self-awareness and emotional intelligence. Empowerment is ultimately driven by the individual's belief in their capability to influence events.

Empowerment can be attained through one or many ways. An important factor in the discovery and application of the human "self empowerment" lies within the tools used to unveil the truth. It has been suggested that Yoga is one such tool that can be used for more than the obvious physical benefits. When Yoga is practiced consistently the mind / body connection is apparent. Through this connection, the individual finds him or herself with a stronger sense of self and the ability to change areas where bad habits rule, negative emotions run rampant, even controlling addictions through understanding them for what they are. What can be more empowering than gaining control over self."

She knows what she wants, she knows how to get it, and she is using the tools afforded her to do just that.

She is empowered.

I don't really care what the line between "porno" and "erotica" is (or whether there is, in fact, a line. People can use "higher art" for pornographic purposes and people can use explicit sexual acts as "art" and it's all a lot of hootenany either way.) If you like it and want to creat it and/or watch it, do so. I hate when strippers or other sexy types try to come up with some hoeawahir excuses as to why they like to get nude and flash their lady parts. I don't see why it needs justification. It's not empowering, it's not a feminist statement, it's something you like to do. Or watch. Period. Sort of how I enjoy eating hamburgers, or kicking people in the shin. Get over it. And for the people it offends, well, then don't watch it. People try to make things so difficult.

Ok, apparently my shine on the word "empowered" is different from that of my regular readers.

Doing porn does not "empower" you. Using your porn skills to get you what you want is proof that you are empowered.

I can be empowered, shoveling sewage. If I know what I am doing, and use my skills as a sewage shoveler to get what I want, then I have shown that I am empowered.
