Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children.

Chris Szabo

So, Chris Szabo has de-friended me, saying that he does not expect me to associate with cowards. Now, in a personal message, I did use the word "cowardly", and I also implied that everything he worked for in his entire adult life may in fact, be a lie... so I can't really say that I blame him.

That being said, Chris Szabo is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War, a tireless worker for the causes he believes in, a father, and husband. Those things aren't lies, and such things are not accomplished by cowards.

In any event, my medium superseded my message, as is often the case with myself. What I was trying to say, which is certainly not easy to swallow, but can be presented in a better manner than the way I said it... it this:

It is a falsity to claim that the Democratic party has "always" been for working families and the middle class. That is patently false, because for over 100 years after reconstruction, the Democratic party of the deep south systematically marginalized and oppressed black working families that either were, or were trying to become part of the middle class.

This is surprising to most people since nowadays, the Democratic party has the talking points of "diversity, fairness in the workplace, expanding and strengthining the middle class", and all that jazz. Let me explain how a party of institutional racists stole the black vote from the party of Lincoln.

Wow. That last sentence was harsh.

So, the northern Democratic party was most certainly not... very... racist, and several Democrats of the south, Lyndon Baines Johnson being the most relavant to this history lesson, were not racist, either. Indeed, there were plenty of Republican racists in that time period.

Any ways, the civil rights acts, the most significant and lasting legacies of the 1960s, are the turning point in this narrative. In 1960, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, a Republican, signed the 1960 C.R.A, after an unsuccessful filibuster by 18 southern DEMOCRATIC senators.

Lyndon Johnson, then the Senate Majority Leader, finally got the filibuster to end.

The 1964 civil rights act, signed in to law by Lyndon Baines Johnson, would not have come in to law had it not been for the strong support of the Republican Minority in the house and senate. The southern bloc, by the way, led by Richard Russell, DEMOCRAT of Georgia, tried to filibuster this one too.

The 1968 Civil Rights Act, once again signed in to law by Lyndon Baines Johnson, was largely spurred by Martin Luther King's assassination. 90.6% of Republican senators (29-3) and 71.2% of Democratic senators (42-17) voted for the act.

So, as is evident, Republicans were integral in the passage of the 1960s civil rights acts. So... what the fuck happened?

Barry Fucking Goldwater Fucking Happened, that's what the fuck happened.

In 1964, Barry Goldwater won the Republican Party's nomination for president. He was opposed to the civil rights acts, because he believed they were unconstitutional, and would be overturned by the Supreme court, sooner or later, thereby horribly reversing all of the gains and good that the acts would do.

Any ways, Goldwater, not a racist by any means, attracted the racist Democrats to abandon their party and become Republicans, and allowed the party of racists, for racists, to poach 90 percent of the black vote ever since.

So, yeah. I get annoyed when people say that the Democratic party is the party of diversity. It's just the party with the best spin.

Any ways, it all doesn't matter. The Pubes and the Crats are the same. More than likely, Obama and Biden will win enough northern, mid western, and western states to overcome the southern, western, and mid western gains of McCain and Palin.

Both houses will be even more blue, and Obama will be in the White House. Then we will all see what four years of majority government by the Democrats is: a FUCKING NIGHTMARE.

Look at the six years of majority government by the Republicans from 2000 to 2006 for my reasons.

You want to know why Clinton was such a good president? He had to deal with a Republican house and senate.

Don't believe me? You'll see.

You'll see.

Szabo is obviously passionate about politics. I think de-friending is an extreme response to a political discussion that went too far, as MOST political discussions do. He is not required to make allowances for you because of the AS, but if he would have stuck around you two may have been able to make allowances for each other because that is what people are supposed to do.
