Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children.

Takonori Seto

He is the mayor of Fukushima city. He hasn't had a good week so far. A picture I am going to post will give you a good idea why.

Kim and I have been closely watching the news coming from northern Japan. We have donated what we can to the American Red Cross, and we have urged others to do the same. I don't think either of us really got what was happening over there until Kim found a photo that made both of us weep.

I am not trying to emotionally extort any of you. If you don't want to look at the picture, don't look at the picture. It's a pretty awful picture. It isn't graphic, but if you click on it, you can read the caption. I have duly warned any readers.
