He first described the autism spectrum condition named after him in 1944. Unfortunately, his work was not translated into English for years, and Asperger's syndrome was not part of the DSM (which is defined here if you click on this) until 1994. As such, the "Kanner" approach --and stigma-- towards autism has lingered on this continent for far too long.

Any ways, the problem with daily posts is that unless one takes measures, a debate period on any particular subject only lasts twenty four hours. Right now, the Chudster has broached a subject that I think requires more discussion. As such, this sentence links to the post where hopefully a debate on the merits and deficits of living with a hereditary disease in today's society can be discussed.

I have learned a LOT about autism since meeting you, AS in particular. I didn't even know there were varying degrees of it. I thought all autistic people just rocked in corners most of the time. I'm glad to keep learning. Wipe the sand out of your vagina and tell us more! lol
heh, along with aspergers mark suffers from sandyvaginitis. a truly crippling affliction.

Scoot, I read your post and link to LCH's blog and find all this fascinating. I personally think there is a strong environmental link to the rise in autism but also we are much better at detecting and diagnosing it.
I haven't been around that much in the last week or two...why the interest in this topic?
